This website was obviously launched to support Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Or was it? The answer is YES...in part.
Chávez is probably the closest thing this generation has to a global hero. Ironically, he may be the most formidable adversary of the corporate jackals that are reducing the United States to the status of a Third World nation. In other words, Chávez may represent the United States’ last best hope.
Therefore, I want to do my part to support him. At the same time, I have two “personal” requests to make of Chávez. First, I am asking him to support me as a candidate for public office here in Washington State (Superintendent of Public Instruction), either by endorsing me or by simply publicizing my campaign (see Campaign 2008). Second, I would like to ask Chávez to add Bill Gates to his hit list (Chávez vs Gates).
So am I some sort of Chávez groupie, similar to the right-wingers who would (and arguably already have) follow George W. Bush over a cliff? And am as I as arrogant as some people think Chávez is to link myself with El Presidente and ask favors of him?
It’s always dangerous to follow a person rather than their vision. In this spirit, Viva Chávez is dedicated to the larger cause, of which both Chávez and I are but a part. But let me explore the questions I asked in more detail.
Kindred Spirits
Millions of people around the world share a vision of a better world, a vision that seemed like a lost cause after George W. Bush stole the White House. I nicknamed my utopian republic the Invisible Republic and envisioned it as a fifth stage in the evolution of the United States—a fifth republic.
Only recently did I discover that Hugo Chávez established a political party whose name translates “Fifth Republic Movement.” Not to be outdone, I’m now attempting to launch a new Fifth Republic Party here in the U.S.
It was Chávez’ big mouth that first caught my attention. He called George W. Bush names—my favorite is pendejo (asshole)—and insulted members of his administration. I loved it.
First, I admire a world leader who speaks the simple truth and isn’t afraid to stand up to global bullies. Second, Chávez could be my twin brother, as verbal assaults on the corporate scum that increasingly parastize us became one of my trademarks early in my career as a political activist. I use words as weapons.
When I ran for a seat on the Seattle School Board in 2007, I used my campaign in part to support Chávez. I even mentioned him in my statement in the Voters Pamphlet. Although many U.S. liberals like to praise Chávez, their support is a mile wide and an inch deep; I’m not aware of any other candidate or public official who has publicly supported Chávez.
Hugo Chávez and I have very similar styles, and we appear to have similar ideas, coinciding in a shared belief in a Fifth Republic.
Disclaimer
However, I became concerned about the increasingly diverse allegations that were swirling around Chávez. Had I been duped? I decided to do a more thorough investigation.
Digging through all the propaganda (particularly the mountain of shit shoveled daily by America’s army of media whores) can be tough. I don’t have all the facts, and it’s possible I’ve been misled. But my conclusion is that Chávez is genuine.
Of course, Hugo Chávez is human, and no one could both lead and reform a nation and attempt to unify an entire continent while fighting off Corporate America and not make mistakes. But it appears to me that any bad things Chávez might have done are far outweighed by the good.
I examine some of the major complaints about Chávez (and add a few of my own) on my Hugo Chávez Isn’t God page. In contrast, I dedicated an entire website to chronicling just some of the problems with my lying, treasonous pResident, George W. Bush, the world’s most dangerous terrorist.
However, I want to make it clear that I am as independent as Hugo Chávez, with ideas and dreams of my own. There are a few issues on which Chávez I apparently don’t agree, even if most are relatively trivial.
Goals
This site serves as sort of a headquarters and index of items I’ve written about Hugo Chávez, which are scattered across several websites.
Though I haven’t yet found time to give them as much attention, my project also supports Bolivian President Evo Morales, Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and other Latin American leaders who are fighting the same enemy that I am: Corporate America.
I apologize to anyone who feels slighted because I’ve devoted so much attention to Chávez. But, for better or worse, Hugo Chávez is Latin America’s best known and most outspoken leader, and he’s the one who I most regard as a kindred spirit.
I also have two special requests for Hugo Chávez. First, if he could somehow help promote what could be my last campaign for public office, it would be one of the highlights of my life. My scheme is much more than a self-serving publicity stunt. Please explore the page I linked to above for more details.
Second, Chávez is perhaps best known for his Bush bashing. He has also followed several other Latin American nations in promoting open source software, particularly Linux, one of Microsoft’s biggest competitors.
Thus, I would like to ask Chávez to finish the job by attacking Bill Gates (aka Billysoft) as he has mauled Bill Gates’ benefactor and ally, George W. Bush. Merely calling Bill Gates an asshole would generate a mountain of publicity and would help promote the idea of corporate blowback. As in every time a U.S. soldier or mercenary murders an Iraqi, a dozen people protest by abandoning Microsoft for a Mac, or a computer running Linux. Pathetic, but better than standing around saying “I support the troops” or lamely babbling about impeaching Bush.
And if the U.S. ever attacks Venezuela, consumers around the world can similarly take it out on Microsoft. See Chávez vs Gates for the details.
But how can Chávez know if I’m on the level?
Just dispatch an agent to Seattle and subject me to a polygraph test. I’ll happily comply. (But, just to make sure I’m not targeted by some CIA agent or corporate operative posing as a Chavista, please contact me in advance to make arrangements.) And if anyone contacts you, asking you not to support me, please ask THEM to submit to a polygraph test.
Summary
In summary, I view Hugo Chávez as a global hero and kindred spirit, and I view his socio-political initiatives as one of the greatest political experiments in history. I don’t know if all his ideas will pan out, but some of his ideas are unimpeachable.
This website serves five primary purposes, as follows:
1) Clearinghouse and central index for Chávez-related information scattered across several related websites
2) Invite Chávez to get involved in Campaign 2008, particularly supporting my campaign for public office
3) Encourage some global blowback against Billysoft
4) Support Hugo Chávez and his allies
5) Support the larger revolution against corporate corruption and “Yankee imperalism”
Thank you for visiting Viva Chávez, and please join the revolution, if you aren’t already on board.
